From High School Varsity soccer, eight years in the Army, to competitive horse shows and Yoga: I've been involved in a variety of rigorous exercise programs. After having two kids back-to-back, gaining A LOT of weight, and becoming stiff with age, I started looking into an exercise program a few years ago. Then I lost my mother to ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and I knew I needed something soothing and relaxing. Not only did I find that relaxation in Yoga, I found a new me, and the old happy self I had lost along with my mother. My wish is that you will come and practice Yoga with me and maybe find the happy child within. Namaste.
"May we always approach our physical practice with deep appreciation, to be in these bodies, to move, to breath, to feel, to sweat–what a gift! And may your Yoga practice enhance your growth, sensitivity, and awareness." -Beth Shaw, President and Founder of YogaFit™

Chair Yoga Matching breath with movement, we will work on functional strength and balance, joint flexibility, relaxation and the breath. This class is excellent for those of us with very limited mobility, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and osteoporosis.
Come practice with us! All classes are one hour in length. Please bring a Yoga mat, a towel, some water and an open mind. Yoga is practiced bare-footed and please try not to eat 2 hours prior to class.
During class, we are trying to find some relaxation. If you find yourself holding your breath or straining at any point, come down to a restorative pose called child's pose and regain that relaxation. Remember, this is your practice, you can make it as challenging or restorative as you wish. Let's try not to hold any expectations for yourself. Every day is different for your body, listen to your body and honor it, allowing breaks when needed. There is no competition or judgement in Yoga. As long as your breath is flowing in and out, you are doing Yoga.
The lotus flower (left) is one of the most ancient and deepest symbols of our planet and is highly represented in Yoga. The lotus flower grows in muddy water and rises above the surface to bloom with remarkable beauty. At night the flower closes and sinks underwater, at dawn it rises and opens again. Untouched by the impurity, the lotus symbolizes the purity of heart and mind. The lotus flower represents long life, health, honor, and good luck. Lotus position is easy seat (crossed legs) with hands resting comfortably on your knees.
