From High School Varsity soccer, eight years in the Army, to competitive horse shows and Yoga: I've been involved in a variety of rigorous exercise programs. After having two kids back-to-back, gaining A LOT of weight, and becoming stiff with age, I started looking into an exercise program a few years ago. Then I lost my mother to ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), and I knew I needed something soothing and relaxing. Not only did I find that relaxation in Yoga, but I also found a new me, and the old happy self I had lost along with my mother. My wish is that you will come and practice Yoga with me and maybe find the happy child within. Namaste.
A native of Detroit Michigan Lori had a surprise pregnancy at 48 and gave birth to a perfect baby boy. But being a stay at home Mom was a challenge after 31 years of working. Lori began her Yoga practice at 55 years old with Veronica. She started class and never looked back. After five years of practice, Lori decided to become an instructor and became certified. Then some foot surgery set things back and getting back to health she tried a chair yoga class and knew it was what she wanted to do. She then returned to her studies and became certified in chair yoga. Most of her practices work with baby boomers and beyond believing that as we head into older age yoga can be the perfect all-around exercise program for all.
"May we always approach our physical practice with deep appreciation, to be in these bodies, to move, to breath, to feel, to sweat–what a gift! And may your Yoga practice enhance your growth, sensitivity, and awareness." -Beth Shaw, President and Founder of YogaFit™

Remember, this is your practice, you can make it as challenging or restorative as you wish. Let's try not to hold any expectations for yourself. Every day is different for your body, listen to your body and honor it, allowing breaks when needed. There is no competition or judgment in Yoga. As long as your breath is flowing in and out, you are doing Yoga.

The lotus flower (left) is one of the most ancient and deepest symbols of our planet and is highly represented in Yoga. The lotus flower grows in muddy water and rises above the surface to bloom with remarkable beauty. At night the flower closes and sinks underwater, at dawn it rises and opens again. Untouched by the impurity, the lotus symbolizes the purity of heart and mind. The lotus flower represents long life, health, honor, and good luck. Lotus position is easy seat (crossed legs) with hands resting comfortably on your knees.
